On the afternoon of January 7, 2025, MRPS was informed by PowerSchool that on December 28, 2024, PowerSchool became aware of a potential cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to certain information through one of its community-focused customer support portals, PowerSource.
PowerSchool has indicated an unauthorized party gained access to certain PowerSchool Student Information System (SIS) customer data using a compromised credential and that District data was accessed. They reported that this spans the entirety of the PowerSchool network.
PowerSchool has confirmed that the incident involved unauthorized access to some MRPS student and teacher data, primarily contact information.

We’ve written letters to our caregiver community:
initial letter sent January 8th
another follow up letter sent January 9th
and a third update letter sent January 28th
We have taken steps to confirm our own cybersecurity practices to ensure the safety of our systems and data.
Please review information about our partnership with The Education Collaborative’s (TEC) Student Data Privacy Alliance and review a database of all active MRPS digital resource agreements through the Student Data Privacy Consortium (SDPC) on our technology webpage.
We are actively working with PowerSchool as they continue to implement security upgrades and investigate the situation.
We remain committed to keeping you informed. PowerSchool plans to send additional communications in the coming weeks. We will make sure to get those out in a timely manner.
